The County Attorney is the chief legal officer for a county. In this regard, the clients of a County Attorney include all county offices, departments, boards, commissions, and agencies. They do not provide legal advice for private citizens. Their office typically handles virtually all civil litigation in which the county or its officers and employees are involved. Their responsibilities may include issuing advice and opinions on legal questions affecting the interests of the county, such as zoning matters, personnel, environmental law, and workers’ compensation; negotiating and preparing agreements or contracts; acquiring and conveying title to real property; collecting various county fees and charges; and drafting local and State legislation for the County.
