Substance abuse – for both prescription and non-prescription drugs – has escalated in Maryland, triggering the alarm from all parts of the state. Counties are working to curb this epidemic – with responses from within their own jurisdictions and at the state level. Addressing the prevention, identification, treatment, and community ramifications of substance abuse require collaboration among many different departments – executive, administrative, public safety, law enforcement, health, and social services, along with many others, are all in the mix and all are needed as part of effective solutions.
Nearly 100 county elected officials, staff, private company representatives, and legislators attended to discuss potential solutions to the opioid epidemic in Maryland. For more details, please read Conduit Street blog coverage of the event.
