High Performance Leadership Academy

Counties affect the lives of residents every day. When our frontline staff are empowered as leaders, we deliver services more effectively. The NACo High Performance Leadership Academy (HPLA) is a resource that connects your staff with practical leadership training. HPLA uses an innovative, interactive online learning platform that combines real-time webinars, recorded sessions and small group discussions to deliver effective training without traveling away from the county – saving money and maximizing time.

MACo and NACo members get to participate at a reduced tuition, visit the NACo website for information on the next cohort and to register.

Participant Testimonials:

"The most valuable aspect of this program relative to my leadership development was the video vignettes from Gen. Powell, Marshall Goldsmith and other executive insights on leadership and the sharing of resources, especially books for further research and development."
(Jan 21, Prince George's County)

"This program one of the most professionally, and personally, relevant leadership programs I have taken. It is not your typical course on being a leader. It does not simply tug at the heart strings with generic, motivational fluff. Each week's information will motivate you as well as provide the necessary tools to put your leadership oath into action.  You will be better because if it and your team will be better because of it."
(Jan 21, Calvert County)

"This course brought introspection and challenged the way I think and how I communicate.  It shed light on areas I can improve upon as a leader but also reaffirmed and strengthened leadership qualities that I knew I possessed."
(Jan 21, Charles County)

"This program offered more than I could have anticipated. It has great content, great speakers and the my breakout group was phenomenal and very supportive."
(Jan 21, Charles County)

"This course provided me two very valuable lessons. One, I gained much needed confidence in my ability to be a good leader and two, the opportunity to meet and learn from others was invaluable. Not only did my team support me they provided wonderful insight."
(Jan 21, Frederick County)

“I would highly recommend the enrollment of supervisors or those aspiring to be leaders into the PDA. The investment in this academy is without a doubt beneficial. From week 1, I was able to utilize what I have learned to enhance my leadership skills.”
