*NOTE ON JAN 2027 CONFERENCE:
During an election year (like 2026), MACo moves our Winter Conference from December to the following January, to provide time for our newly elected officials to be confirmed and installed in their roles before joining us at conference. There will be no Winter Conference in 2026. The January 2027 Winter Conference will include an extra day of programming on Tuesday, Jan 5, for our Newly Elected Officials Orientation - this is for new county elected officials only, with the regular conference content for veteran elected officials, county professionals, and others being held Wed-Fri, Jan 6-8, 2027. Our normal, 3-day Winter Conference will resume being held in December, starting with December 2027 through 2029, until the next election year - 2030.
Educational Opportunities
Several annual conferences and events offering continuing education for elected and appointed county officials are held yearly. Many sessions qualify for credit with the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance.
The Winter Conference is held in December or January and every four years offers a half-day training for newly elected officials. The Summer Conference and Trade Show is held mid-August in Ocean City. Both events focus on education, but also offer briefings by state departments and agencies and networking opportunities. The governor addresses both conferences.
The Administrators and Attorneys Fall Conferences provide forums for discussion of legal and management issues for county administrators and attorneys. If you need help registering a County Attorney or Administrator for their respective conferences, please email us.
The Half-Day Annapolis Immersion Training allows new and veteran officials and professionals the chance to familiarize themselves with the policy-making process, the ins and outs of Annapolis during the General Assembly Session, and MACo's role in the legislative session.
A smaller, one-day Symposium event is held in the spring. The event focuses on specific topics to allow for more in-depth exploration of important issues.
For more information about our Conferences and Events, please get in touch with MACo's Deputy Director Virginia White.
